Charles E Leiserson
Charles Eric Leiserson is a computer scientist, specializing in the theory of parallel and distributed computation, and especially its practical applications. As part of this effort, he developed the multithreaded Cilk language. He invented the Fat-Tree Interconnect Network, a universal hardware interconnect used in many supercomputers, including the CM5 Interconnect Engine, of which he was a network architect. He contributed to the development of VLSI theory, including methods of activating numerical optimization with James B. Saxe and systolic arrays with H. T. Kung. He devised the concept of cache bypass algorithms, which do not have parameters to adjust cache size or cache line length, but still use near optimal cache. He developed the Cilk language for multithreaded programming, using a proven job-steal algorithm for planning.
