Erica Abi Wright, known by her stage name Erykah Badu, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. Influenced by R&B, 1970s soul and 1980s hip hop, Badu partnered with the neo-soul generation in the 1990s and 2000s alongside artists like D'Angelo. She has been called the neo queen of souls. Badu's career began after opening a show for D'Angelo in 1994 in Fort Worth; Records CEO Kedar Massenburg was impressed with her performance and signed with Kedar Entertainment. His first album, Baduizm, was released in February 1997. He produced four singles: "On & On", "Appletree", "Next Lifetime" and "Anotheride of the Game". The album was certified three times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. His first live album, Live, was released in November 1997 and was certified Dual Platinum by the RIAA. His second studio album, Mama's Gun, was released in 2000
