Fabian Lukas Schär is a Swiss footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Newcastle United. Formed at Wil, he transferred to Basel in 2012, winning the Swiss Super League in all three of his seasons before his move to Hoffenheim. After playing at the 2012 Olympics, he made his senior debut for Switzerland in 2013. Schär represented the nation at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Euro 2016.
