About Garland Green

Perhaps most famous for his 1969 Billboard hit "Jealous Kind of Fella" and his follow-up single "Plain and Simple Girl," he also released several albums, including Love Is What We Came Here For (1977) and I Should've Been The One (2012).

Before Fame

While studying vocal music and piano performance at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, he won a talent competition and was given the opportunity to share the stage with jazz musicians Earl Hines and Lou Rawls.

Achievement

His 1974 single "Let the Good Times Roll" (not to be confused with the 1956 Shirley and Lee track of the same title) rose to number sixty-five on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart.

Born Garfield Green, Jr. in Dunleith, Mississippi, he grew up with ten siblings. After relocating to Chicago, Illinois, he married music producer Arleen Schesel.
