Gemma Chan is an English actress. She is known for her role as Astrid in the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians, in which she received widespread recognition, and as Anita/Mia on the television drama Humans. Born in London and raised in Kent, Chan attended the Newstead Wood School for Girls and studied law at Worcester College, Oxford. She gained a position in a law firm following graduation, but chose to pursue a career in acting instead, studying acting at the Drama Centre London. She has had supporting roles in television series: Doctor Who special "The Waters of Mars", Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Fresh Meat and Bedlam. Chan continued to gain recognition for her roles in high-profile films including Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Transformers: The Last Knight. She also starred in the leading role of Anita/Mia on the AMC/Channel 4 science fiction drama Humans from 2015 to 2018.

Actress and model who is known for her work across British film and TV. She appeared in Season 4 of the Showtime/ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl and in the BBC drama Sherlock as Soo Lin. In 2018, it was announced she'd be joining the cast of Captain Marvel.
She studied law at Worcester College, Oxford. Following her graduation, she turned down a legal job offer, and enrolled at the Drama Centre London to pursue an acting career.
In 2015, she starred in the inaugural season of the AMC/Channel 4 drama Humans as the main protagonist, Mia/Anita. That same year, she starred in the French drama Families, as Chen-Lin.
She previously dated Jack Whitehall in 2011; but they later broke up.
