About Gemma O'Brien
Artist, illustrator, and typographer, she is specialized in the area of hand-lettering. She has designed all manner of products for QANTAS, Heinz, The New York Times, Volcom, and Smirnoff. She has also had shows at various galleries all over the world.
She dropped out of law school to move to Sydney and get a degree in design. At university she was allowed to work with a letterpress, which got her interested in the world of typography. She gained prominence with an experimental short film in which she inscribes her body with hand lettering.
She is represented by The Jacky Winter Group and has spoken at various conferences around the world including TYPO Talks, Semi Permanent, and agIdeas International Design Forum.
She has lived in Sydney, Australia.
She designed the cover art for YouTube star, actor, and singer Troye Sivan's EP Wild.
