Harlow Shapley
Harlow Shapley was an American scientist, the head of the Harvard University Observatory, and a political activist during the new and subsequent fairness agreements. Shapley used Cepheid variable stars to estimate the size of the Milky Way and the position of the Sun within it using parallax. In 1953, he proposed his theory of the "liquid water belt", now known as the concept of the habitable zone.
