Jen Richards is a transgender writer, actress, producer and activist.
About Jen Richards
Actress, writer, and activist, she has spent much of her life advocating for the transgender community and gender and racial justice. She is a series regular on E! Network's I am Cait with Caitlyn Jenner.
She studied at Oxford University and in Kyoto, Japan. From 2008 to 2013, she was manager and director of the music ensemble Eighth Blackbird, which won numerous Grammy Awards. She was the creator of We Happy Trans, an online forum that portrayed positive transgender experiences. That was how she first garnered national media attention.
In 2015, she began working on the web series Her Story which is written, directed, and acted by transgender women. She began working on this project so that there would be more accurate presentation of transgender men and women in the media. Amazon's Transparent creator Jill Soloway was a big supporter while she was writing the screenplay.
She came out as trans when she was 36 years old and has said that she wished she had come out sooner considering how much happier she is being herself.
She has been featured on AOL's True Trans with Laura Jane Grace many times to speak about transgender issues and representation in the media.
