John Cabell Breckinridge
John Cabell Breckinridge is an American lawyer, politician and soldier. He represented Kentucky in both houses of Congress and became the 14th and youngest vice president of the United States. Serving from 1857 to 1861, he took office at the age of 36. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served in the US Senate during the outbreak of the American Civil War, but was expelled after joining the Confederate Army. He was appointed Secretary of War of the Southern Union in 1865. Breckinridge was born near Lexington, Kentucky, into a famous local family. After serving as a non-combatant during the Mexican-American War, he was elected a Democrat in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1849, where he took a stance on state rights against interference. intervene in slavery.
