About Juan Piña
Famous for his work in the tropical and vallenato music genres, he won a 2012 Latin Grammy for Le Canta a San Jacinto, as well as four Congo de Oro awards for his earlier work.
He began his career by performing with his father's music group Juan Pina and Boys and went on to establish, along with his brother Carlos, a band called La Orquesta de los Hermanos Pina.
He collaborated with Joe Arroyo on several recordings.
The son of Juan de la Cruz Pina and Blanca Rosa Valderrama, he spent his youth in San Marcos, Sucre, Colombia. He later fathered seven children (all girls).
He and fellow Colombian vocalist Carlos Vives both won Latin Grammy Awards for their work.
