Kailash Kher is an Indian singer and songwriter who sings songs with music styles influenced by Indian folk music and Sufi music. He was inspired by classical musicians Pandit Kumar Gandharva, Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and singer Qawwali Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. When he couldn't find a guru or the right school, Kher started to learn music by listening to music. He listened to classical Indian singers such as Pandit Gokulotsav Ji Maharaj, Pandit Kumar Gandharv, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, and later Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Lata Mangeshkar and their contemporaries. Kher received the 2017 Padma Shri Award from the Indian government. He also received two Filmfare Awards for Best Male Vocalist: one for Bollywood film Fanaa and one for Telugu Mirchi, among other nominations. With a powerful voice and a unique musical style, Kher has established himself as one of the most famous book singers in India.
