April Phaedra Douglas "Kim" Campbell is a Canadian politician, diplomat, lawyer and writer who served as the 19th Prime Minister of Canada from June 25 to November 4, 1993. Campbell is the assistant. the first and only female to hold this position. A member of Canada's Progressive Conservative Party, Campbell was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 1986 before being elected to the Canadian House of Representatives in 1988. Under Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, she held several Cabinet positions, including Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Minister of Defense from 1990 to 1993. Campbell became the new one. prime minister in June 1993 after Mulroney resigned amid his gloomy reputation. In Canada's 1993 federal election in October of that year, the radical Conservatives were eliminated, losing all but two seats from the previous majority, and Campbell was lost.
