Marcel Marceau is a French actor and mime best known for his stage character, "Bip the Clown". He calls mime "the art of silence" and has performed professionally around the world for over 60 years. As a young Jew, he lived in hiding and worked with the French Resistance during much of World War II, performing his first big show against 3,000 soldiers after the liberation of Paris in August 1944. After the war, he studied drama and pantomime in Paris. In 1959 he founded his own pantomime school in Paris, then founded the Marceau Foundation to promote the arts in the United States. Certificate of Merit in France. He won the Emmy Award for his television work, was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, and was recognized as the "National Treasure" in Japan.
