Russell Marion Nelson Sr. is an American religious leader and former surgeon, the 17th and current President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nelson was a member of the LDS Church Twelve Apostles Quorum for almost 34 years and served as the Quorum President from 2015 to 2018. As President of the Church, Nelson is accepted by the Church as a home. prophecy, prejudice and revelation. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Nelson attended the University of Utah for college and medicine. Then he did his medical internship and obtained his doctorate. at the University of Minnesota, where he was part of the team that developed cardiopulmonary machines, in 1951 assisted the first open-heart surgery in people using cardiopulmonary bypass. After receiving additional surgical training and two years with the US Medical Corps during the Korean War, Nelson returned to Salt Lake City and accepted a professorship at the Medical School of Utah Medical College. .
