Thomas Jeffrey Hanks is an American actor and filmmaker. Known for both his comedic and dramatic roles, he is one of the world's most famous and well-known movie stars and is considered an American cultural icon. Hanks' films grossed over $ 4.9 billion in North America and over $ 9.96 billion globally, making him the fourth-highest grossing actor in North America. Hanks made a breakthrough with his lead role in the comedy Splash and Big. He won two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for playing a gay AIDS lawyer in Philadelphia and the main character of Forrest Gump. Hanks has collaborated with director Steven Spielberg in five films: Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Bridge of Spies and The Post, as well as the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers, which debuted as as director, producer and screenwriter.
