Donald Thomas Scholz is an American rock musician, musician, inventor, engineer, and philanthropist best known as the founder of the Boston group. Scholz is a trained engineer at MIT who designed a recording studio in the basement of an apartment building. Boston's debut album was recorded primarily in his basement studio, often using equipment he designed and invented. Following Boston's success, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market their inventions, many of which carry the Rockman brand. He was described by AllMusic as a "non rock n 'roll" character who disliked the limelight becoming a performer, focused on music, producing and inventing new electronics. In recent years, he has devoted a lot of his time and money to charity.
