Shane Niemi is a retired Canadian sprinter. When he was just 17, he won a bronze medal in the 400-meter distance at the 1995 American Children's Track and Field Championships after the world's top player Obea Moore. All three athletes completed the same order at the 1996 World Junior Track and Field Championships. He returned to the 1997 US Children's Track and Field Championships to win the gold medal in the event. He failed to qualify for the 2000 Olympics. He ran his personal best, the Canadian record, 44.86 at the 2001 Jeux de la Francophonie at home in Ottawa to claim gold. He didn't have the same magic at home at the 2001 World Championships, but the following year won the silver medal in a close battle at the 2002 Commonwealth Games by beating the champion.
