Theodore Meir Bikel war ein österreichisch-amerikanischer Schauspieler, Folksänger, Musiker, Komponist, Gewerkschafter und politischer Aktivist. Er trat in Filmen auf, darunter The African Queen; Moulin Rouge; Die Entführer; Der Feind unten; Ich möchte leben!; Meine schöne Dame; Die Russen kommen, die Russen kommen und 200 Motels. Er war auch ein weithin anerkannter und aufgenommener Folk-Sänger und Gitarrist. 1959 war er Mitbegründer des Newport Folk Festival und kreierte die Rolle des Captain von Trapp an der Seite von Mary Martin als Maria in der originalen Broadway-Produktion von Rodgers & Hammersteins The Sound of Music.
