Dave Brubeck
David Warren Brubeck is an American jazz pianist and composer, considered one of the pioneers of the exciting jazz genre. Many of his compositions have become the jazz standard, notably "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke". Brubeck's style ranges from subtle to monumental, reflecting both his mother's classic training and his own improvisation skills. His music is famous for his use of irregular timing notations as well as the layering of rhythms, counters and contrasting tones. Brubeck tested time signature throughout his career, recording "Unsquare Dance" in ⁷ ₄, "World's Fair" in ¹³ ₄ and "Blue Rondo à la Turk" in ⁹ ⁹. He is also a composer for orchestral and sacred music and writes soundtracks for television, such as Mr. Broadway and This Is America animated miniseries, Charlie Brown. Often confused with Brubeck, the jazz standard song "Take Five" was composed by Brubeck's longtime musical colleague, saxophonist Paul Desmond.
