This socially conscious twentieth-century American artist is best known for his sketches and tempera paintings of male nudists. He predominantly worked in the artistic genre of magic realism. The Seven Deadly Sins (at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and Night in Bologna are two of his most well-known paintings (collected by the Smithsonian American Art Museum).
