Rudolf "Rudi" Dassler is the German founder of sportswear company Puma and the brother of Adidas founder Adolf "Adi" Dassler. The brothers are partners in a shoe company founded by Adi, "Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik". Rudi joined in 1924. However, after the feud between Rudolf and Adolf Dassler developed after World War II, the brothers split up and started their own business in 1948. Initially called the new company "Ruda", it was quickly changed to its current name Puma. Puma is the leopard leopard's native Quechua language, from which it was passed on to German as well as other languages.
