When he was named director of NASA, he was head of the space department at the PLA at Johns Hopkins University in Laurel, Maryland.

From 2005 to 2009, this renowned aerospace engineer and physicist was the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He formerly served as the director of the Space Department at Johns Hopkins University.
