Romaldo "Aldo" Giurgola AO is an Italian scholar, architect, teacher and author. Giurgola was born in 1920 in Rome, Italy. After serving in the Italian armed forces during World War II, he trained at Sapienza University in Rome. He studied architecture at the University of Rome, completing a B.Arch bachelor's degree. with a difference in 1949. The same year, he moved to the United States and obtained a master's degree in architecture at Columbia University. In 1954, Giurgola accepted the position of associate professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Soon after, Giurgola founded Mitchell / Giurgola Architects in Philadelphia with Ehrman B. Mitchell in 1958. In 1966, Giurgola became president of the Columbia University School of Architecture and Planning in New York, where he opened a secondary office. two of society.
