Harald Reinl is an Austrian director. He is known for his films based on the books by Edgar Wallace and Karl May and has also made mountain films, Heimatfilms, German war films and entries from the popular series. of Germany such as Dr. Mabuse, Jerry Cotton and Kommissar X. Reinl started his career with supporting roles in Arnold Fanck's mountain films. He wrote the screenwriter of the film Tiefland directed by Leni Riefenstahl and starred. The first film directed by Reinl was The Mountain Crystal. It was nominated for an Oscar for the documentary Chariots of the Gods. In the 1970s, he retired to the Canary Islands. In 1986, in his retirement home in Tenerife, he was stabbed to death by Daniela Maria Delis, his alcoholic wife and a former Czechoslovak actor.
