Dame Jane Morris Goodall, formerly Baron Jane van Lawick-Goodall, is an English anthropologist and biologist. Considered the world's leading chimpanzee expert, Goodall is best known for her 60-year research into wild chimpanzee's family and social interactions since her first visit to the National Park. Gombe Stream in Tanzania in 1960, where she witnessed human behavior among chimpanzees, including armed conflict. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots & Shoots program, and has worked extensively on animal welfare and conservation issues. She has served on the board of the Human Rights Project since its inception in 1996. In April 2002, she was appointed United Nations Peace Ambassador. Goodall is an honorary member of the World Future Council.
