Jefferson Leonardo Pérez Quezada is a retired Ecuadorian runner. He specializes in 20km content, in which he won the only two medals his country has ever won at the Olympics. He won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, becoming the youngest person to win a gold in the 20 km walk. After his victory, he began a 459 km pilgrimage, walking, jogging and running from the Franciscan Church in Quito to his hometown of Cuenca. At the 2008 Olympics, he won a silver medal in the same competition at the age of 34, before announcing his retirement from the sport. At the 2003 World Championship in Paris, France, Pérez also established the best in the world at 1:17:21 in a distance of 20 km. Pérez finished fourth in a 20 km walk at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
