James Scott Connors is a former American tennis player number 1. He held the highest ranking in the Professional Tennis Association for 160 consecutive weeks, followed by a record, from 1974 to 1977 and a total career of 268 weeks. He was the first male tennis player to hold No. 1 in over 200 weeks, and thanks to his long and prolific career, Connors still holds three Open Era men's singles records: 109 titles, 1,557 games played. and 1,274 wins. His trophies include eight major tournaments, three year-end championships and 17 Grand Prix Super Series titles. In 1974, he became the second person of the era to win three major leagues in one calendar year, and was not allowed to compete in the fourth, French Open. In 1982, he won both Wimbledon and the US Open and was considered the number one player in the world that year, apart from 1974 and 1976. He retired in 1996 at the age of 43.
