Robert Luther "Lute" Olson is an American basketball coach who has been inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National College Basketball Fame Hall. He was the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men's team for 25 years. He was also the Iowa Hawkeyes head coach for nine years and Long Beach State 49ers for one season. Known for his player development, many of his former players have had impressive careers in the NBA. On October 23, 2008, Olson announced his retirement from coaching. Olson died on August 27, 2020 in a hospital in Tucson, Arizona, after a stroke. He was 85 years old.
