Cole Albert Porter war ein amerikanischer Komponist und Songwriter. Seine Shows der frühen 1940er Jahre enthielten nicht die bleibenden Hits seines besten Werks der 1920er und 1930er Jahre, aber 1948 feierte er mit seinem erfolgreichsten Musical, Kiss Me, Kate, ein triumphales Comeback. Es gewann den ersten Tony Award für das beste Musical.
