Daniel Toroitich arap Moi ist ein kenianischer Politiker und von 1978 bis 2002 der zweite und am längsten amtierende Präsident. Zuvor war er von 1967 bis 1978 Kenias dritter Vizepräsident und tritt nach seinem Tod die Nachfolge von Präsident Jomo Kenyatta an. . Moi wurde in einer kleinen Gruppe in Kalenjin Tugen im kenianischen Rift Valley geboren und studierte als Kind an der Inland Mission of Africa, bevor er eine Lehrerausbildung an einer Lehrerausbildungsschule absolvierte. Später trat er der Politik bei und wurde zum Mitglied des Rift Valley Legislative Council gewählt. Als sich die Unabhängigkeit näherte, nahm Moi an der kenianischen Delegation in London teil, um an der Lancaster House-Konferenz teilzunehmen, auf der die erste Verfassung des Landes nach der Unabhängigkeit ausgearbeitet wurde. 1960 gründete er die Kenianische Afrikanische Demokratische Union als rivalisierende Partei der African National Coalition Kenya in Kenyatta.
