Dror Soref ist ein Filmemacher und Sozialreformer, der mit dem Musikvideo I Love Rocky Road für den damals noch unbekannten "Weird Al" Yankovic im Jahr sein Debüt als Regisseur gab. 1983, nach dem Besuch der USC Film School. Soref gewann die Nominierung für den besten Kurzfilm für den besten Kurzfilm Platinum Blonde und zog die Aufmerksamkeit des Präsidenten der Paramount Studios auf sich. So wurde Soref beauftragt, Projekte in den Paramount Studios zu entwickeln, damit er schreiben und Regie führen konnte. Mit Hilfe von Paramount wurde The Seventh Coin Sorefs Debüt als Spielfilmautor/-regisseur. Zusammen mit Peter O'Toole gewann The Seventh Coin 1993 zwei Festivalpreise, darunter Bester Film. Im Laufe des nächsten Jahrzehnts führte Soref Regie oder produzierte mehr als 100 Werbespots und Musikvideos. 2003 kehrte Soref zu Spielfilmen zurück und produzierte gemeinsam mit John Travolta und Samuel L. Jackson Basic für Columbia Pictures.
