Sir Edmund Andros was a British Colonial Director in British America. He was governor of the New England Dominion for much of its three years of existence. At other times, Andros was governor of the provinces of New York, East and West Jersey, Virginia and Maryland. Before serving in North America, he was the Bailiff of Guernsey. His tenure in New England was arbitrary and volatile, given his view of favoring Anglicanism, a negative quality in an area inhabited by Puritan. His actions in New England led to his overthrow during the Boston Rebellion of 1689. He became governor of Virginia three years later. Andros was considered a more efficient governor in New York and Virginia, although he became the enemy of celebrities from both colonies, many of whom worked to remove him from office. .
