Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin ist ein deutscher Dichter und Philosoph. Hölderlin wird von Norbert von Hellingrath als "der deutschste aller Deutschen" bezeichnet und ist eine Schlüsselfigur der deutschen Romantik. Insbesondere aufgrund seiner frühen Verbindung und seines philosophischen Einflusses auf Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel und Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling war er auch ein wichtiger Denker in der Entwicklung des deutschen Idealismus. Hölderlin wurde in Lauffen am Neckar geboren und hatte eine Kindheit, die von Verlust geprägt war. Seine Mutter wollte ihn in das lutherische Ministerium schicken und er besuchte den Tübinger Stift, wo er sich mit Hegel und Schelling anfreundete. Er schloss sein Studium 1793 ab, konnte sich aber nicht dem christlichen Glauben widmen, sondern wurde Tutor. Zwei Jahre später besuchte er die Universität Jena, wo er mit Johann Gottlieb Fichte und Novalis in Kontakt kam, bevor er seine Karriere als Tutor fortsetzte. Er kämpfte darum, Dichter zu werden und litt an einer psychischen Erkrankung.
