Joseph Bohomiel Lapchick war ein amerikanischer Profi-Basketballspieler, der vor allem dafür bekannt war, in den 1920er und 1930er Jahren mit den Original Celtics zu spielen. Er wird allgemein als das beste Zentrum seiner Zeit angesehen, in seinen späteren Jahren nur von Tarzan Cooper überschattet. Nachdem er 1937 seine Spielerkarriere beendet hatte, wurde Lapchick Cheftrainer an der St. John's University, eine Position, die er bis 1947 innehatte, als er die New York Knicks in der NBA übernahm. Lapchick trainierte die Knicks bis 1957 und führte sie zu drei aufeinander folgenden NBA-Finals-Auftritten. Er kehrte zu St. John's zurück und trainierte sie bis 1965.
