John McLean
John McLean ist ein amerikanischer Anwalt und Politiker, der im US-Kongress als Superintendent des US-Postdienstes und als Richter an den Obersten Gerichten von Ohio und den Vereinigten Staaten tätig war. Er wird oft über die Nominierungen des Whig-Präsidenten diskutiert. McLean wurde in New Jersey geboren und lebte in mehreren Grenzstädten, bevor er sich in Ridgeville, Ohio, niederließ. Er gründete die Wochenzeitung The Western Star und eine Anwaltskanzlei. Er gewann die Wahl in das US-Repräsentantenhaus, das von 1813 bis zu seiner Wahl in den Obersten Gerichtshof von Ohio im Jahr 1816 diente. Er trat von dieser Position zurück, um die Nominierung für die Regierung von Präsident James Monroe anzunehmen und wurde 1823 General Manager des US-Postdienstes.
