Jose Garcia Villa is a poet, literary critic, short story writer, and painter from the Philippines. He was awarded the Philippine National Artist Title for Literature in 1973, as well as the Guggenheim Fellowship for Creativity from Conrad Aiken. He is known to have incorporated the "reverse syllable system" into poetic writing, as well as the widespread use of punctuation - especially commas, which earned him the title of poet of commas. He used the pseudonym Doveglion, which was based on characters he himself derived. These animals were also discovered by another poet, E. E. Cummings in Doveglion, Adventures in Value, a poem dedicated to Villa.
