Karl Blossfeldt war ein deutscher Fotograf, Bildhauer, Lehrer und Künstler, der in Berlin arbeitete. Bekannt wurde er durch seine Nahaufnahmen von Pflanzen und Lebewesen, die 1929 als Urformen der Kunst veröffentlicht wurden. Er war wie sein Vater von der Natur und der Art und Weise, wie Pflanzen wachsen, inspiriert. Er glaubte, dass "die Pflanze als eine völlig künstlerische und architektonische Struktur geschätzt werden muss". Zu seinen Kontakten an der Berliner Kunsthandwerksschule gehörte Heinz Warneke. Ab 1923 war er Professor an den Vereinigten Staatsschulen für freie und angewandte Kunst in Berlin. Er starb im Alter von 67 Jahren.
