Nivea ist eine deutsche Körperpflegemarke, die sich auf Körperpflege spezialisiert hat. Es gehört der Beiersdorf Global AG mit Sitz in Hamburg. Das Unternehmen wurde am 28. März 1886 von Paul Carl Beiersdorf gegründet. 1890 wurde es an Oscar Troplowitz verkauft. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Beiersdorfer Kollegen Dr. Paul Gerson Unna und dem deutschen Chemiker Isaac Lifschütz entwickelte Troplowitz eine neue Hautpflegecreme. Im Jahr 1900 entwickelte Lifschütz die erste stabile Öl-in-Wasser-Emulsion, Eucerit. Dies ist der Ursprung von Eucerin. Nivea kommt vom lateinischen Adjektiv niveus, nivea, niveum, was "weißer Schnee" bedeutet. In den 1930er Jahren produzierte Beiersdorf eine Vielzahl von Produkten wie Hautfarbstoffe, Rasiercremes, Shampoos, Reinigungsmittel und Toner. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde das Label "NIVEA" in vielen Ländern beschlagnahmt. Nach dem Krieg erwarb Beiersdorf das Urheberrecht. In den 1980er Jahren hatte sich die Marke NIVEA auf den breiteren globalen Markt ausgeweitet.
