In den 1940er Jahren begann er E-Bass zu spielen und begann Aufnahmen mit R&B- und Bluesmusikern, darunter Lefty Bates und John Lee Hooker, mit denen er auf mehreren Alben spielte. Er spielte weiterhin Jazz und arbeitete in den 1960er Jahren mit Bill Reinhardt und in den 1970er Jahren mit Joe Kelly zusammen.
