Roman Opałka ist ein französisch-polnischer Maler, dessen Werke hauptsächlich mit der Konzeptkunst verbunden sind. Opałka wurde am 27. August 1931 in Abbeville-Saint-Lucien, Frankreich, als Sohn polnischer Eltern geboren. Die Familie kehrte 1946 nach Polen zurück und Opałka studierte Lithografie an einer Grafikschule, bevor sie sich an der Kunst- und Designschule in Łódź einschrieb. Anschließend absolvierte er die Akademie der Schönen Künste in Warschau. 1977 kehrte er nach Frankreich zurück. Opałka lebt in Teille bei Le Mans und in Venedig. Er starb im Alter von 79 Jahren, nachdem er während eines Urlaubs in Italien erkrankt war. Er wurde in ein Krankenhaus bei Rom eingeliefert und starb dort wenige Tage später, am 6. August 2011, drei Wochen vor seinem 80. Geburtstag.
