He won the 2005 Vasantham Star Opening Singing Competition. The talent search is organized by MediaCorp Vasantham. Shabir's song Yaayum from the movie Sagaa has become a sleepy hit in India and around the world. After being part of a team that sang the 2007 National Day Parade, “Will You”, he wrote and composed “Singai Naadu”, the Tamil song of the 2012 National Day Parade. Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong. Shabir received the Singapore Youth Award, the noblest national title bestowed by the Singapore government on successful young people. He is the first Tamil / Indian artist to win this award.
