Vincas Kudirka ist ein litauischer Dichter und Arzt sowie Autor der Musik und Texte der litauischen Nationalhymne Tautiška giesmė. In Litauen gilt er als Nationalheld. Kudirka verwendete die Pseudonyme V. Kapsas, Paežerių Vincas, Vincas Kapsas, P.Vincas, Varpas, Q.D, K., V.K, Perkūnas. Kudirka wurde in Paežeriai geboren, im Parlament des Gouverneurs Augustów in Polen. Er begann 1881 in Warschau ein Studium der Geschichte und Philosophie, wechselte jedoch sein Hauptfach und begann im folgenden Jahr ein Medizinstudium. Während des Studiums wurde er wegen des Besitzes einer Kopie von Das Kapital wegen Subversion verhaftet und von der Universität Warschau ausgewiesen, aber später akzeptiert. Er machte 1889 seinen Abschluss und arbeitete als Landarzt in Šakiai und Naumietis. Kudirka begann 1888 mit dem Schreiben von Gedichten. Gleichzeitig wurde er aktiver in der litauischen Erweckungsbewegung. Zusammen mit anderen litauischen Studenten in Warschau gründete er den Geheimbund Loiuva.
