Vladimir Becić war ein kroatischer Maler, der vor allem für sein Frühwerk in München bekannt wurde, das einen starken Einfluss auf die Richtung der modernen Kunst in Kroatien hatte. Becić studierte Malerei in München an der renommierten Akademie der Künste bei Oskar Herman, Miroslav Kraljević und Josip Račić. Diese Gruppe kroatischer Künstler ist als Münchner Kreis oder Münchner Vier bekannt und ist eine sehr wichtige Persönlichkeit der kroatischen Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts. Nach München verbrachte zwei Jahre Studium und Arbeit in Paris, bevor er 1910 nach Zagreb zurückkehrte. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs arbeitete Vladimir Becić als Kriegsmaler an der Saloniki-Front und produziert eine Serie von Bildern von Soldaten und Verwundeten. Nach Kriegsende verbrachte er einige Zeit in einem Dorf in der Nähe von Sarajevo, wo er Landschaften und ländliche Motive in einem Stil malte, der mit Farb- und Tonvariationen Form und Raum wiedergab. Becić war Professor an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Zagreb und ab 1934 Mitglied der Kroatischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und Künste.
