David Garrick
David Garrick is an English actor, playwright, theater director, and producer who influenced almost every aspect of theater performance throughout the 18th century, as well as student and friend. by Dr. Samuel Johnson. He has appeared in a number of amateur theaters, and with his appearance as Shakespeare's Richard III, audiences and managers have begun to take notice of him. Impressed with his role as Richard III and several other roles, Charles Fleetwood hired Garrick for a season at Theater Royal, Drury Lane. He remained with the Drury Lane Company for the next five years and acquired a theater segment with James Lacy. This sale opened the door for 29 years of management of Garrick of Drury Lane, during which time it became one of the main theaters in Europe. When he died, three years after retiring at Drury Lane and theatrical, he held a lavish public funeral at Westminster Abbey, where he was buried at Poets' Corner.
