Matthew DeVries is a former rhythm guitarist in heavy metal band Chimaira and former bassist in metal band Fear Factory. During his time working with Chimaira, he wrote many songs for the band with Rob Arnold and Mark Hunter. In 2005, DeVries appeared on the album Roadrunner United: The All Star Sessions, performing on two of the songs written by Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, "Annihilation by the Hands of God" and "Charter Down". In 2003 DeVries was severely beaten in Liverpool while touring with Chimaira. The attack was not provocative and had nothing to do with DeVries membership in Chimaira or the music genre of Chimaira in general. The band's next two concerts, in Dublin, Ireland and Belfast, Northern Ireland, were scheduled as usual and the band gave both performances in four tracks, while DeVries recovered in hospital. . He can then join them for the remainder of his UK / Europe tour.
