Neil Ellwood Peart OC is a Canadian musician, songwriter and songwriter, best known as the drummer and lead lyricist of the rock band Rush. Peart has won numerous awards for his musical performances, including the 1983 Modern Drummer Readers Hall of Fame award, making him the youngest ever honored. Known by fans as "The Professor", his drummers are renowned for their technical skills and live performances for their demanding nature and durability. Peart was born in Hamilton, Ontario and raised in Port Dalhousie. As a teenager, he floated among bands in the region to pursue a career as a full-time drummer. After a depressed period in England to focus on his music, Peart returned home, where he joined Rush, a band from Toronto, in mid-1974, six years after they formed. They have released nineteen studio albums, ten of which have sold over a million copies in the United States.
