Raymond Leo Burke
Raymond Leo Burke is an American bishop of the Catholic Church. Bishop, Cardinal and Patron of the Supreme Command of Malta, he heads the Archdiocese of St. Petersburg. Louis from 2004 to 2008 and the Diocese of La Crosse from 1995 to 2004. In addition, from June 2008 to November 2014, he was Prefect. of the Apostolic Signature, where he is currently a member of the base. As a canonist, Burke is often seen as the voice of traditionalism among the Catholic bishops. He built a reputation as a Tory leader while serving in La Crosse and St. Louis. Burke is the main supporter of the Tridentine Mass, regularly celebrating and ordaining traditionalist priests. He criticized what he saw as insufficient during Paul VI's mass after 1969. He is often seen as the de facto head of the conservative wing of the Church.
