Steve Biko
Bantu Stephen Biko is an anti-racist activist in South Africa. An African nationalist and African socialist, he was at the forefront of the popular anti-racism campaign known as the Black Conscious Movement of the late. 1960 and 1970. His ideas were featured in a series of articles published under the pseudonym Frank Talk. Growing up in a poor Xhosa family, Biko grew up in the Town of Ginsberg in the Eastern Cape. In 1966, he started studying medicine at Natal University, where he joined the South African National Student Union. Strongly opposed to South Africa's racist system and white minorities, Biko was disappointed that NUSAS and other anti-racist groups were dominated by white liberals, not the blacks most affected by the racism regime. He believed that well-intentioned white liberals did not understand the black experience and often acted in a patriarchal fashion.
