William Morris Hunt
William Morris Hunt is an American artist. Born in the Hunt political family of Vermont, he trained in Paris with the realist writer Jean-François Millet and studied under his direction in the artists' colony of Barbizon, before forming a similar group on his return. He went on to become Boston's foremost landscape and portrait painter, as well as sculptor and lithographer. In 1871, he was elected to the National Academy of Design as an associate academy. Many of his works were destroyed during the Great Fire of Boston in 1872. Another disaster was the deterioration of the stone slabs of the Parliament House in Albany, New York, on which some murals of he was drawn. It is believed that this led to his depression and suspicions of suicide.
