Lim Chin Siong was a leftist politician and trade union leader in Singapore in the 1950s and 1960s. He co-founded the People's Action Party in 1954 and founded many pro-party unions through his famous one. He remains the youngest MP from Singapore to be elected. However, Lim's political career was interrupted by two incarcerations without trial after being labeled a communist: first, from 1956 to 1959, under Lim Yew. Hock, you're under arrest; and second, from 1963 to 1969, Operation Coldstore. He was released in 1969 after attempting to kill himself in prison, on condition that he quit politics for good reasons.
